Abstract

Prospective preacher education requires learning that connects Islamic knowledge with action in community settings. This study examines educational design, experiential learning, and competency development at Pesantren Persis Al-Asma Sumedang. A qualitative case study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with 22 informants and document analysis. Data were analyzed deductively using Kolb’s four experiential learning modes and inductively to identify competencies and educational mechanisms. Findings show a staged process comprising four years of pesantren education, repeated Ramadan community service, preparatory training, and final-year service through the PP PERSIS Kafilah Du’at program. The learning was observed as the participants recalled their experience in the area of knowledge in pesantren and adapted their behavior to the needs of the community. This process supported communication, adaptation, independence, pedagogical skills, leadership, and problem-solving. The resulting model links educational stages, experiential transformation, mentoring, local contexts, and community feedback. The findings reflect the educational context of Pesantren Persis Al-Asma Sumedang while offering a basis for further examination in other pesantren settings
